Book Presentation: "Queremos tanto a Jane", by Juana Libedinsky

On January 27, the Consulate General and Promotion Center of Argentina in New York hosted the presentation of Queremos tanto a Jane, by Argentine journalist and cultural critic Juana Libedinsky. The event brought together a packed audience of readers, specialists, and members of the cultural community for a conversation that combined literature, shared readings, and collective reflection on the enduring relevance of Jane Austen, more than two hundred years after her work.

Far from a biography or a traditional academic approach, Queremos tanto a Jane offers an accessible and dynamic journey, driven by curiosity, enthusiasm, and solid erudition. From a contemporary and transnational perspective, Juana Libedinsky connects Austen to pop culture, television series, and film, as well as to the everyday experience of reading, particularly from the viewpoint of those who live between languages and cultures.

The event featured a dialogue with the author and a special participation by Gabriela Montero, President of the Jane Austen Society of Mexico and a member of the Board of Directors of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA). Her contribution offered a regional and international perspective on the growing enthusiasm surrounding Austen’s work and on the many ways her texts continue to foster a sense of community.

Throughout the conversation, the striking contemporaneity of Jane Austen was highlighted, as her writing continues to resonate with today’s readers through its sharp observation of social relationships, individual choices, and the implicit rules that shape life in society. These themes, explored from different cultural experiences, gave rise to an open and participatory exchange with the audience.

The presentation of Queremos tanto a Jane was part of the Consulate General’s cultural promotion activities in its role as Argentina’s Promotion Center in New York, once again underscoring the value of literature as a living bridge between traditions, geographies, and communities, as well as a privileged space for encounter, dialogue, and cultural exchange.
