Through Layers is a solo exhibition by Argentine artist Alexandra Arata, exploring the dialogue between transparency and depth, fragility and strength. Her works, known for their airy textures and fluid forms, reveal the subtle power that emerges from what is not immediately seen, from the spaces between layers.
In Arata’s paintings, color and form unfold gradually, as if suspended in air. The transparent layers, sometimes delicate, sometimes bold, invite viewers to slow down and look beyond the surface. This interplay between light and opacity becomes a metaphor for emotion, memory, and identity, what we choose to show, what we keep hidden, and how both coexist within us.
At the same time, her work reflects an ongoing exploration of how shapes and colors influence our inner world. Inspired by principles of positive psychology, each composition is intuitively balanced to evoke subtle emotional shifts, a sense of calm, lightness, or quiet energy. Soft, organic forms create a feeling of openness, while layered colors interact in ways that can gently transform mood and perception, bringing color into our days.
While her compositions appear soft and ethereal, they carry a quiet intensity. Each piece is built through a process of adding, veiling, and revealing, a rhythm that mirrors the artist’s own search for balance between intuition and control. The resulting works feel alive, full of motion and energy, yet grounded by an underlying structure and sense of purpose.
Through Layers is an invitation to pause and experience stillness within complexity. It celebrates the beauty of transparency as a symbol of honesty and vulnerability, and the strength found in the process of building, one layer at a time.
