On September 9, 2026, the Consulate General and Promotion Center of Argentina in New York opened two new exhibitions as part of its 2026 Cultural Program, showcasing different expressions of contemporary Argentine art: “The Movement of Matter,” by Sonia Braun, Laura Manuel, and Cecilia Nigro, presented by Vicky Alianelli, and “Across Space,” by Cristian Damián González Lahmann, curated by María T. Huang.

The opening brought together artists, members of the cultural community, members of the Argentine community, and the New York public, who explored both exhibitions and had the opportunity to engage with their creators.

“The Movement of Matter” brings together three artistic languages—ceramics, painting, and photography—in a reflection on transformation, time, and memory. Working with materials such as water, stone, sand, pigment, and clay, Braun, Manuel, and Nigro explore the tension between what changes and what remains, and matter’s ability to preserve the traces of experience.

“Across Space”, in turn, offers an immersive journey through Argentina’s landscapes and skies. The Puna, Patagonia, the Pampas, the Litoral region, and Buenos Aires form a sensitive map where nature, memory, and contemplation converge. Through paintings, poetry, projections, and a virtual reality experience, González Lahmann creates a journey that begins in recognizable territories of Argentina and expands toward a more universal dimension.

During the opening, Consul General Gerardo (Gerry) Díaz Bartolomé highlighted the diversity of artistic languages and perspectives brought together by the two exhibitions. He noted that, despite their distinct identities, both invite us to look beyond what is immediately visible: one finds memory in the transformation of matter, while the other turns geography into an experience that transcends borders.

He also reaffirmed the Consulate’s commitment to keeping the doors of its historic home open to Argentine artists and to creating spaces for encounters between artists and audiences, different disciplines and perspectives, and, ultimately, between Argentina and New York.

With these new exhibitions, the Consulate continues its 2026 Cultural Program, aimed at promoting and showcasing the diversity and vitality of Argentine artistic creation in New York.

Both exhibitions will remain open to the public through December 2026 at the Consulate General, 12 West 56th Street, Manhattan. They may be visited Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., free of charge.
