Kick-Off to the FIFA World Cup 2026: Football, Culture, and Promotion at Argentina's Home in New York

The Consulate General and Promotion Center of Argentina in New York celebrated the kickoff of the FIFA World Cup 2026 with a special gathering that brought together members of the consular corps, business leaders, importers, distributors, community representatives, and friends of Argentina.

The event showcased Argentina's passion for football through some of its most cherished traditions, including Argentine asado, wines and beer, and sweet treats, generously provided by sponsors whose support helped make the celebration possible.

The occasion also marked the inauguration of the Consulate's renewed patio, a revitalized space that will further strengthen its role as a venue for cultural diplomacy, trade and investment promotion, and engagement with the Argentine community and international partners.

A highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the new permanent location of a bronze sculpture by renowned Argentine artist Naum Knop, part of the Consulate's collection since the 1980s. The work now occupies a prominent place in the patio as a tribute to Argentine artistic heritage. Notably, the sculpture was cast by the historic Buchhass Foundry in Buenos Aires, the same foundry responsible for the monument to General José de San Martín in Central Park, creating a symbolic connection between two important expressions of Argentine culture in New York.

The celebration formed part of the Consulate's year-long program leading to the institution's 80th anniversary in 2027 and highlighted the role of sports diplomacy in bringing people together across cultures and borders. As New York welcomes the world for the FIFA World Cup 2026, as Promotion Center, our Consulate General is proud to showcase not only Argentina's love of football, but also its culture, creativity, hospitality, and world-class products.
