Diplomatic Briefing on FIFA World Cup 2026

The Consulate General and Promotion Center of Argentina in New York hosted a Diplomatic Briefing on the FIFA World Cup 2026, together with the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SOFCNY), in partnership with the New York–New Jersey Host Committee.

The event brought together members of the consular corps based in New York for an in-depth presentation on the preparations for what will be the largest World Cup in history. The 2026 tournament will unite 48 national teams across 16 host cities in three countries, culminating with the Final to be held in the New York–New Jersey region.

The briefing provided a comprehensive overview of the planning and coordination efforts underway, as well as the opportunities for engagement with the international diplomatic community in the lead-up to the tournament. It also highlighted the economic, cultural, and global impact that the World Cup is expected to generate, positioning the region as a central hub for one of the decade’s most significant global events.

The Consulate was honored to welcome distinguished speakers, including Tammy Murphy, Board Chair of the NYNJ Host Committee; Alex Lasry, Chief Executive Officer of the NYNJ Host Committee; and Maia Bartaia, Consul General of Georgia and President of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York, after Consul General and Deputy President of the Society, Gerry Diaz Bartolomé.

Their presentations offered valuable insights into the scale, logistics, and vision behind the organization of the tournament.

With New York–New Jersey set to host eight matches, including the Final, the region will play a central role in welcoming the world. In this context, initiatives such as this diplomatic briefing reflect the strong spirit of collaboration between local institutions and the international community.

As Argentina’s Promotion Center in New York, the Consulate continues to serve as a platform to connect global partners, foster dialogue, and support initiatives that bring countries and cultures together. Major global events such as the FIFA World Cup offer unique opportunities to deepen international ties, promote cultural exchange, and strengthen relationships across sectors.

For Argentina—current FIFA World Cup Champion—the road to 2026 carries a special significance, reinforcing the country’s deep connection to the game and its global community.
