Within the calendar of cultural activities scheduled for 2014, last Thursday May 8th the Consulate General of Argentina held a photography exhibition "LO QUE SE VE / WHAT IS SEEN" of the renowned Argentine photographer Adriana LESTIDO at the Library and Gallery Halls .
The exhibition is curated by Fernando FARINA and it is jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture of Argentina and the National Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibit will be opened to the public until May 26th.
The artist presented a selection of forty photographs (50cm x 34cm) in black-and-white from the series "LO QUE SE VE / WHAT IS SEEN”, achieving a particular reflection on feminism, especially its feminine and intimate side. No men appear in the photographs, or almost none. Viewers get the sensation that they are always (like a ghostly presence), both in love and heartbreak situations.
While filial love often replaces the absence of loving couple and the absent man LESTIDO´s work, in the end it might be defined (as it is suggested by its curator) as an extensive reflection on love: love of couples who are not present, love of children to their mothers who care for them and love them.
The opening was attended by the Undersecretary of Cultural Affairs y Executive Director of the National Museum of Fine Arts, Marcela CARDILLO (who addressed to the audience a few words during the presentation) as well as art critics and collectors and public in general
