María Verónica Ramírez gave life to Monstriña, a girl in a red dress and pigtails, who explores the depths of feelings, the unconscious and the dream universe full of invisible friends, monsters and shadows with which she lives. Her unique way of addressing her fears has led followers, teachers and therapists to incorporate Monstriña as a facilitating tool to go through fears and transform them.
Monstriña was born in 2013, when the director of the Lisbon Animation Festival, Fernando Galrito, asked María Verónica for a "female moster". The girl, who is not always the same age – but rather between 2 and 8 years old – traveled around Portugal and became the Festival's graphics.
In 2023, Monstriña - which appears every Sunday in Argentina's “Clarín” newspaper - turns 10 years old. To celebrate this anniversary, the author proposes a tour of the different aspects of the character's life in which peace is present in each instance.
María Verónica Ramírez is a plastic artist, film and TV director. Maria Verónica, together with Caloi (creator of “Clemente”) with whom she was a partner for more than 20 years, created the television series "Caloi en su tinta" in 1990.
