3 - FUNCTIONS IN TOURISM PROMOTION ACTIONS

According to the World Tourism Organization (WTO), tourism has become one of the main economic activities and a sector of sustained growth in terms of foreign exchange income, stimulus for investments in infrastructure and job creation.

For the Argentine Republic, the income derived from international tourism has positioned this activity as one of the five leading sectors for the export of goods and services.

Therefore, in order to optimize the promotion of Argentina's tourism offer in foreign markets, cooperation mechanisms have been implemented between the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Tourism. This cooperation is made operative through the coordination between the National Institute for Tourism Promotion (InProTur), the Directorate for Tourism Support and Investment Promotion and the Diplomatic and Consular Representations abroad.

Main functions of the Directorate of Support to Tourism and Investment Promotion in the actions of Tourism promotion:

  • Coordinate with InProTur the actions of tourism promotion abroad.
  • Coordinate with the Argentine Representations the formulation of tourism promotion actions.
  • To support tourism promotion actions carried out by the National Institute for Tourism Promotion (InProTur).

In accordance to these main functions, it is the responsibility of Argentine Representations abroad to:

  • Prepare reports on the characteristics of the market
  • Establish contact with tour operators
  • Organize seminars and workshops
  • Participate in fairs and exhibitions
  • Establish contact with local specialized journalists
  • Organize business rounds for tour operators
  • Disseminate tourism promotion material
  • Establish contacts with sector associations
  • To inform about publications and journalistic articles from Argentina
