"The Movement of Matter": An Exhibition by Sonia Braun, Laura Manuel & Cecilia Nigro

The Consulate General and Promotion Center of Argentina in New York presents “The Movement of Matter,” an exhibition bringing together the work of Argentine visual artists Sonia Braun, Laura Manuel, and Cecilia Nigro, presented by Vicky Alianelli.

Matter is time in motion. Water changes form, clay preserves the imprint of a moment, and pigment settles and erodes, as if writing and erasing its own history. In this passage, matter retains something of what it once was and, through transformation, opens onto the possibility of what it may yet become.

Braun, Manuel, and Nigro work with diverse materials — water, stone, sand, pigment, and clay — to explore that unstable territory where matter, time, and memory meet and affect one another. Each, through her own language, considers how what changes can endure as the trace of an experience. Ceramics undulate, brushstrokes move, and photography shifts the gaze.

The exhibition brings together three perspectives on the tension between what transforms and what persists; between the impermanence of matter and its capacity to leave a trace.
