“Fragments of an Unknown Friend” is an Argentine documentary directed by Magda Hernández that tells the story of her friend Cristina Vázquez, a teenager who turned into a perfect suspect without evidence and was sentenced to life imprisonment. The film includes interventions of Cristina Vázquez (2019).

At the end of the screening, the public is invited to participate in a discussion led by María Paula Brückner, MS and specialist in Gender and Diversity Policies, in a critical and reflective space, on the prevention of gender-based violence.

In 2007 Cristina Vázquez, originally from the North of Argentina, settled in downtown Buenos Aires, Argentina, built a life, made new friends. She worked in a downtown restaurant. In that place the police raid occurred that turned Cristina into The Queen of the Hammer: a wild, drug-addicted and promiscuous young woman who was also a murderer. Months later, without evidence, she was tried and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today and it remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it.
